In-Vehicle Telematics IoT-Gateway Computer
The RX-8400 product family is specially designed to be used in vehicles. The RX-8400 vehicle computer offers a freely configurable and programmable Linux system. The system is equipped with an integrated 4G / LTE modem as well as a GPS / GLONASS receiver and supports - among other interfaces - up to three CAN ports. Thanks to the extremely low power consumption of 1.3 W, the device operates fanless. Because of the compact dimensions, the system is easy to accommodate even in difficult installation situations.
Industrial interfaces
The RX-8400 system supports up to 3 CAN bus interfaces in the standards 2.0A and 2.0B. In addition, a 10/100 Mbit Ethernet interface, RS422, RS485 as well as RS232 interfaces and two 480MBit / s USB host interfaces are supported. Up to 8 isolated digital inputs and 8 digital outputs are available for vehicle coupling. Optionally, an I2C interface as well as a 1-wire interface enable the connection of a wide range of sensors.
Powerful and reliable computer platform
The powerful ARM-based system of the RX-8400 vehicle computer is equipped with 256 MB of internal flash memory and 128 MB of DDR RAM. A removable microSD card also provides up to 32GB of mass storage. With the hardware watchdog, the operating software can be reliably protected against failure due to unintended operating conditions. The integrated 4G / LTE module can be restarted independently of the basic system. The very low power consumption from 1.3 watts in full operation also allows battery-powered applications without problems.
Worldwide internet connection
The integrated 4G / LTE modem can be used worldwide. There is an automatic fallback to 3G or 2G, in case there should no 4G network be available. Only the provider data is required to establish an Internet connection. The SIM card is accessible from the outside and is housed in a stable holder with locking mechanism. External antennas can be connected via FAKRA or optionally SMA connectors.
Flexible Linux system
The flexible Linux system supports two distributions that can be selected in the simplest way. RX-8400 supports a compact Linux system that runs entirely from the onboard flash and includes a pre-installed web server, PHP, Python, Java, OpenVPN and other packages. On the other hand, a Debian system is available with full access to the Debian package management system. The GCC toolchain in conjunction with the remote debugger GDB ensures a comfortable programming in C / C ++. The CAN interface is programmed via the standard SocketCAN interface. The J1939 protocol as well as the CANopen protocol are supported. Examples of sending and receiving CAN messages are included in the StarterKit. For easy setup of an Internet connection, only the provider data is to be provided.

SMA antenna connector
The RX-8400 product family is available with both FAKRA antenna connectors and SMA connectors. The FAKRA connectors are standardized connectors in the automotive sector with mechanical and color coding of the corresponding functions, such as GSM (4G / 3G / 2G) in violet color or GPS in blue color.
SMA connectors are wide-spread standard connectors for antennas. Many antennas are offered as standard with SMA connectors.
It should be noted that there are male and female connectors and so-called inverse plugs. In the case of the inverted plugs the arrangement remains thread and nut but in the plug inside the pin and socket is interchanged.
The RX-8400 computer family is equipped with SMA standard female connectors on the side of the device.
The antenna must therefore have an SMA standard male connector.
Powercontrol
With the option PowerControl, the plug for the power supply has a three-pole design. Two poles remain unchanged for the power supply of the device. The third pole is a status line which is e.g. can be connected directly to the ignition terminal, the terminal 15. The device switches on only when the ignition is switched on. If the ignition is switched off, this is signaled to the operating system, which in turn signals the switch-off request to the application. The application can then perform all necessary work, such as closing files, terminating programs and services etc., and then, if necessary, shut down the operating system and shut down the computer.Extended operating temperature
With the "Extended operating temperature" option, the RX-8400 can be operated in the following temperature ranges.-30 ° C .. + 80 ° C (non-condensing) Operation without restrictions
-40 ° C .. + 85 ° C (non-condensing) Restricted Operation
Restricted operation affects the integrated 4G module. Restricted operation allows the module to operate normally, but it may be possible that 3GPP specifications are not fully respected with regard to the sensitivity of the receiver.
Bracket
The Bracket option is used to easily mount the RX-8400 In-Vehicle Computer on level mounting surfaces. This ensures a stable and easy mounting of the RX-8400.Bracket with rubber buffer
If a fixed mounting of the RX-8400 In-Vehicle Computer is not possible due to vibrations and impacts, the holder is available with integrated rubber buffers. This can reliably shield vibrations and impacts from the device.DINrail holder horizontal
The horizontal DINrail holder allows the RX-8400 In-Vehicle Computer to be attached to a standard DINrail. The horizontal mounting variant is selected if the available space is limited to the front.DINrail holder vertical
The vertical DINrail holder allows the RX-8400 In-Vehicle Computer to be attached to a standard DINrail. The vertical mounting option is selected when the space is limited on the side.
